Typed transcription of the original handwritten memoirs of Abraham Jobe, which he wrote between ca. 1893 and 1905. The autobiography documents the life of Dr. Jobe during his youth in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama; his medical and surgical practice in northwestern North Carolina and northeast Tennessee; and his Civil War experiences. It also describes his service as a special agent of the U.S. Post Office Department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, his business activities in Tennessee and North Carolina, and his family life. The autobiography covers the period 1817 to 1905.

Born in 1817 in Carter County, Tenn. Following military service (1835 or 1836) moved to Jonesborough, Tenn. Lived at various locations in upper East Tennessee, northern Georgia, and North Carolina. Began practicing medicine in Burnsville, N.C., in 1843 and moved to Elizabethton, Tenn., in 1845.
